The Chalk Bus is a vibrant nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring creativity in children through the power of art. Housed in a charming vintage VW bus, our mission is simple: to provide art supplies to children in underserved communities while fostering a love for self-expression.
As a unique mobile art hub, The Chalk Bus doubles as a giant chalkboard, inviting kids to unleash their imaginations and create their own masterpieces right on the side of the bus. We also offer a fun photo booth experience, capturing the joy of creativity and the memories made during our art sessions.
At The Chalk Bus, we believe that every child deserves access to the tools they need to express themselves artistically. Our team of passionate volunteers travels to schools, community centers, and local events, sharing supplies, guidance, and encouragement. By creating a welcoming space for creativity, we empower children to explore their artistic potential and build confidence in their abilities.

HOW THE CHALK BUS CAME TO BE
I've always had a passion for vintage Volkswagens and art. One day, while tinkering with my VW Bus, I was transported back to a trip I took to NYC in the late '80s. I vividly recalled seeing a Plymouth Neon parked in Brooklyn, completely covered in chalkboard paint. The owner had left chalk on the windshield wiper, inviting passersby to write their favorite inspirational quotes on the car. That memory sparked an idea: why not merge my two passions? I decided to paint my bus with chalkboard paint, and from that moment, everything changed.
Tragedy strikes
March 2020 we we're on the way home from a youth sports charity event and had a fire. the Chalk Bus was gone, but not our dreams or passion. we set out on the search for a new Chalk Bus.

We finally found a bus we could afford in Chesapeake, VA. This one was a panel van. Now we have more room for art!
